Picture of BIG BANG Festival Rouen 2019

Opéra de Rouen Normandie has joined the BIG BANG family, a flourishing network of major opera houses and cultural centers throughout Europe. For two days, a variety of performances offer daring forms, short and rhythmic shows, aimed at both enlightened amateurs and young beginner ears. The first opus of this festival in Rouen included a dozen shows and animations, attracting more than 3000 people, nearly 70% of whom had never pushed the doors of the Opera, discovering for the first time in a poetic and atypical way many inaccessible places of the Theater.

A production by Zonzo Compagnie in coproduction with Opéra de Rouen - with the support of Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Rouen, Le Collège Boieldieu, Radio France Bleu Normandie, City of Rouen, Région Normandie and the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

About Opéra de Rouen

From the 17th century Opéra to today's creation, each season of Opéra de Rouen Normandie is intertwined with concerts, in all their possible forms, like a manifesto that music is alive! Our trademark is that of a house open to the most diverse expressions, to lead spectators through concerts, musical theater, dance shows, on the paths of emotion. Openness and fruitful dialogue between aesthetics and disciplines are at the heart of our project. With the same requirement, artists from all horizons have mixed their voices to make all the music resonate on our 2 main venues: the Théâtre des Arts and the Chapelle Corneille.

About the building

With its 1300 seats and its stage of 16 meters wide, Théâtre des Arts is the historic site of the Opéra de Rouen Normandie. Inaugurated in 1962, this third building was built a few streets away from the very first Théâtre des Arts of 1776. It is, today, the home of the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen, where symphonic concerts are held, but also opera, dance and musical theater performances.

Having regained all its splendor after years of work, the Chapelle Corneille has been entrusted to the Opéra de Rouen Normandie. With its 600 seats, this majestic and inspiring setting is that of a unique concert experience where all types of music are happily mixed together
