In Reinaert de V., puppetry, dance, music and song revive the primal story about Reinaert the Fox.
Author Simon van der Geest, best known for his Golden Griffel-winning children's books Dissus en Spinder, adapts this medieval satire into a climate court case in which the 'equals' are seduced into corruption, youth rise up against the old guard and Reinaert's daughter ultimately triumphs.
The story
At Queen Nobel's court, all the animals complain about the evil antics of Reinaert the Fox. Bruun the Bear and Tibeert the Cat are sent out to summon him, but Reinaert makes them pay dearly for it. Only when his daughter Rosseline insists does he appear at court. Everything argues against him, but the sly fox manages to convince Queen Nobel of his innocence with a sublime story and a rumour about a treasure.
